How Corkeen is used on different playground projects

Corkeen as Playground Flooring Material

Corkeen aims to create a sustainable retained fall system for playgrounds. The most common way Corkeen is installed would be on play spaces. This equips the entire playground with excellent impact absorption, cushioning any trip or falls. It’s not only beneficial for safety but also visually appealing. Its earthy brown hue is gentle on the eye and also makes children feel like they are playing in nature.

If you’re looking to add more colours into the play space, you can install Corkeen within the boundaries of the play space’s safe zone, while surrounding it with coloured EPDM rubber. This way, you can get the best of both worlds of Corkeen’s impact absorption properties and a customised flooring design.

Coating on street furniture

Taking a more innovative approach, this Corkeen project features the use of the material on street furniture. Often found in neighborhood parks, these fixtures can become uncomfortably hot under the afternoon sun. Retro-Max addressed this by integrating Corkeen into the surface of the seats, providing a cooler, more comfortable experience for users.

Cork is an insulating product, which means its temperature is well-regulated. It is found to lower surface temperature by 20%, compared to other surfacing options. This feature adds comfort to the user, resulting in furniture that invites people to sit and spend a long time, even on a hot day.
